Frequently asked questions.

1. What training methods do you use?

I use positive reinforcement training methods that are science-based, effective, and fun for both you and your dog. My focus is always on building communication, confidence, and teamwork.

2. What age can my puppy start training?

Puppies can start as early as 16 weeks old. My Puppy 101 class is designed specifically for young puppies to begin socialization and basic manners.

3. Do you offer private training?

Yes! I offer one-on-one sessions tailored to your dog’s needs—whether it’s obedience, behaviour challenges, or specific goals.

4. What classes do you offer?

I currently offer:

  • Obedience: Puppy 101, Adolescent, Advanced, Real-World Ready

  • Agility: Zoomies, Fast & Focused, Course Crushers, Speed Demons

  • Specialty: Recall, Loose-Leash Walking, Crate Training, and more

5. How long are classes?

Group classes usually run for 6 weeks, with each session lasting about 1 hour. Private training sessions are 60 minutes.

6. Where are classes held?

Most classes are held at a Smiths Falls or Athens training facility. Outdoor classes are all in Carleton Place, see footer for addresses. Some programs (like Real-World Ready) also take place in public spaces for real-life practice.

7. How do I register for a class?

You can register directly through my online booking system

8. What if I miss a class?

I don’t offer make-up classes for group sessions, but I’ll provide homework so you can practice at home. Private sessions can be rescheduled with 24 hours’ notice.

9. Can family members attend?

Absolutely! I encourage all household members to be consistent with training. Please just keep in mind that young children must be supervised at all times.

10. What should I bring to class?

Please bring:

  • Your dog on a flat collar or harness

  • A 4-foot leash (no retractables, please)

  • Lots of soft, bite-sized treats

  • A toy your dog loves

  • Water for your dog

11. Do you work with reactive or aggressive dogs?

Yes, I do—but not in group settings. For dogs who need more space, I recommend private sessions so I can give them the attention they need.

12. Are you certified?

Yes! I’m an experienced and certified trainer, and I’m always learning more to provide the best training possible.

13. Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Class fees are non-refundable once a session has started. If you need to cancel before your class begins, reach out to me and I’ll see what options are available.

14. How do I know which class is right for my dog?

If you’re not sure, just send me a message! I’ll happily guide you toward the class or program that best fits your dog’s age, skill level, and personality.
